Wherein the troupe evade agents of the Sheriff and make new friends._
The troupe polices the area, recovering what arrows they can find. Drystan searches the pouch carried by the messenger and discovers userer notes totalling more than 200 Crowns borrowed from many lenders but having a single recipient: Tulath Kaphin, Sheriff of Vemionshire and Constable of Mosstone.
Realizing the letters are the reason the verderers had attacked, the troupe mounts up the wounded and carries them to a nearby priory, held by Avanian monks. There they leave the wounded, but are unable to secure a good hiding place for the satchel in the rustic compound.
Prior Colme, discerning some of the intrigue around their late night visitors, informs the trio the sheriff will most likely have agents upon the road in the morning and departure prior to the patrols on the road would be wise. Not wishing to be captured or to bring the wrath of the sheriff down on the priory they depart before dawn, riding rough and led by Drake. Following a miserable two days upon the road, the reach the small town of Archendale.
They discover that Drystan’s inexperienced riding has hurt his mount: it had a bruised hoof and would need to be rested before continuing on. The make their way to the local inn (The Severed Hand) and make themselves comfortable. Darwish performs to the entertainment of a crowded room (people stranded by the weather) and a merry night is had by all.
The following day, they wile the hours, waiting anxiously for riders from the sheriff to appear and hoping for good news from the horseman in regards to Drystan’s mount. Late in the afternoon, they find themselves invited to the quaint hall of the Elorieth clan by Eodred Elorieth, son of the Baron. It is hoped that Darwish would perform for them during the evening.
Mustering their best clothing, they arrive in the hall and following a well prepare repast, Darwish performs admirably. During the performance, Drake approaches Moraine Elorieth and opens a conversation with her. He finds her very forthright, ignoring most small talk and delving right to the point of asking why Drake and his companions are upon the road. He admits some of their purpose and his forthrightness appears to soften her somewhat. Some flirtation occurs, and Drake is well satisfied with the start of a new friendship.
